Spread the love

My husband and I just celebrated out 20th Wedding Anniversary.

We had planned to visit Bali or Tahiti on our 20th Anniversary but I thought it would be nostalgic to go back to where we had spent our Honeymoon.

Mexican Riviera-

When we were married 20 years ago, times were changing and travel destinations were growing. Not many people knew about this area. There were so many choices, but I wanted to go somewhere tropical with crystal clear beaches. I am glad we discovered this little gem!

Our Honeymoon- Playa 1999

We choose the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, Otherwise known as: Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Isla Mujeras and Cancun. We were supposed to stay on the island of Cozumel but there were a few obstacles we encountered on the first day, so plans changed and we took the Ferry across to Playa del Carmen. It turned out to be a perfect Honeymoon destination.

My Wedding day was, let’s just sayNOT what I had hoped for, dreamed of or PLANNED. But our Honeymoon made up for all the craziness we encountered. If I told you about my Wedding day, you honestly wouldn’t know whether to laugh or cry with me. It was something out of a comedy movie! Maybe I should write a post and title it….“21 things that can never happen on your Wedding day, but did”! ha ha

Well, at least I can laugh about it now we and have a crazy story to tell.

“PARTY LIKE IT’S 1999”.

Just like the song that the Amazing artist “Prince” wrote, “PARTY LIKE IT”S 1999”. We partied like it was 1999! It was such an amazing experience to meet so many beautiful people from all around the World. We ate, drank, partied, went on adventures and just enjoyed being young and in love!

Now I say to myself…. ahhhhhh…To be young again!

This was my first international trip and long flight. I was little nervous but I had my adventurous Husband by my side. (Little did I know how many more amazing trips that I would go on in my lifetime! Guess he was preparing me!)

Life Lesson #1

I was a huge planner and when things were not exactly how I had planned, My anxiety was off the hook! Looking back at that day and many other experiences in my life… it has taught me that things are not always perfect. Things are what you make it.

We overcame the Crazy Wedding and the 1st “not so nice” day of our Honeymoon. So much that we had the time of our life! Now that I am looking back on that life experience, it was just preparing for the long road of life ahead of me. THINGS ALWAYS WORK OUT!

It seems like just yesterday, then I blinked and we were middle aged with a home and 2 children!

20 years of Marriage is a long time. I remember when my Parents hit their 20th Anniversary. I remember thinking…. “Geez, they are OLD”! Now I am looking in the mirror saying that to myself!

I am proud of the Women I am today and I am proud of the Man that I married. It hasn’t been easy, but we have made a nice life and overcame alot TOGETHER! WE have built a beautiful life, have 2 wonderful children and have been through so much together.

Marriage is NOT easy! But together it can be amazing!

Quality time-

How Celebrating Your Anniversary is Helpful

Celebrating your anniversary can be good for your marriage in several ways. One way is that simply remembering how you fell in love and why you got married can bring back some of those loving feelings.  So take a look at your wedding photos on your anniversary. Review the video (if you have one). If you’ve saved any of your wedding mementos such as your dress, the flowers or favors, take a look at them. Remember those fun times or even the stressful times. YOU MADE IT through both!!! Laugh about it and rejoice!

Discuss what you remember from your wedding day. Talk about why you got married or when you first fell in love. Share your thoughts with each other and it can help reinforce those positive feelings.

Another way that celebrating your anniversary is helpful to your marriage is that it helps create new positive memories. The rigors of everyday life can get in the way of having fun and being able to simply enjoy one another’s company. So celebrating together can reinforce the importance of making your marriage a priority.

When you make new and happy memories together, this can improve your marriage. Taking time out to do fun things together, whether it is going away for a night or visit your favorite restaurant, it can provide you with an opportunity to spend quality time together.

No time to sneak away?

Being able to spend some time away is nice but sometimes time, money or life does not allow you to get away on your Anniversary. You can still spend time together and celebrate!

It’s about QUALITY time, time to reconnect and appreciate each other!

Take the day off from work, turn off the cell phone, stop checking your email, and just spend QUALITY time together. Keep it simple and remove yourselves from your busy everyday lives. Celebrate your life together because that is what your anniversary is all about.

If you have kids, see if your parents or in-laws will watch them for the night. Book a rental through airbnb  and spend the night away together. You don’t even need to leave the city to enjoy a romantic night away.

I recommend to use Groupon for entertainment and travel deals
